2. What will the cost be if I register through the T.E.A.M. program? Will I really save on my tuition?
- Applicants with an LSAT of 156 or higher with a transcript from an accredited Yeshiva showing a GPA of 3.5 or higher could receive a tuition scholarship in the amount of $25,000 per year towards Southwestern’s full-time, three year, JD program, or $18,750 per year towards its part-time, four-year program (day or evening).
- Southwestern Law School’s tuition is presently $45,180 for the full-time program and $30,120 for the part-time program (both flat rate) plus an annual $200 student services fee. The scholarship would be automatically renewable each year, provided the student maintained a GPA of 2.7, which typically places the student in the top 65-70% of the class. (Many law school scholarships set unrealistically high GPA requirements for renewal.)
- Southwestern also offers a JD/MBA program in combination with The Drucker School, part of Claremont Graduate University, and a two-year JD program, for a limited number of students.
3. Where is Southwestern Law School? How have its graduates done?
- Southwestern Law School is located in the Mid-Wilshire district in Los Angeles, a 15 minute drive or 25 minute bus ride from the Jewish communities in the Hancock Park and Fairfax neighborhoods.
- Southwestern graduates are a major force in the legal profession in Los Angeles, which also has the largest Jewish community in the United States after the New York area. Southwestern Law School is approved by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools.
- Southwestern has over 12,000 alumni, including prominent public officials – from members of Congress, to mayors, and over 200 judges – as well as founders of major law firms and the general counsels of multinational corporations.
- Thanks to its Biederman Entertainment and Media Law Institute and its Los Angeles location, Southwestern is especially well known for its entertainment, media and intellectual property curriculum. The school has a reputation for graduating lawyers who are well-rounded, entrepreneurial, and prepared for practice.
4. How do I know if my B.A. or Yeshiva Degree is accepted for entry at Southwestern Law?
- Holders of a B.A. from an accredited university and/or those students holding a Bachelor’s Degree from any AARTS (Association of Advanced Rabbinical and Talmudic Schools) accredited yeshiva are eligible for admission.
- Some yeshiva programs not accredited by AARTS may also qualify, but will be evaluated by Southwstern Law School on a case by case basis.
- T.E.A.M. will review your transcripts at no cost to make sure you can apply and be considered for the Law program
5. If I currently live outside California, would I have to move there?
- Yes, you would have to relocate for the full period of your studies. Sometimes one-semester and summer externships may be arranged for course credit in other cities. This is a major life decision to go to law school and to change course. Southwestern is an especially attractive destination for students who would like to consider a future in California.
- TEAM will assist you in finding a frum family to rent an apartment from while you complete your law degree. (Or students can find their own housing.) Southwestern offers on campus student apartments, but there are no shuls in walking distance.
- Although you will be in a new place, TEAM will try hard to make the environment as pleasant and "at home" as possible.
6. Can I apply for Financial Aid at Southwestern in addition to the tuition scholarship?
- Yes! Southwestern Law School believes strongly that education is a lifetime investment. Their office of student financial assistance has a variety of financial resources available to students. They work very hard to provide the best information on how to apply for financial aid, types of aid available, and other relevant information.
- For more information please visit the School’s Financial Aid homepage, by clicking here.
7. Will I do any Southwestern Law coursework with T.E.A.M.?
